Riverbed Confirmed By Gartner As Major APM Player
Application Performance Monitoring (APM) – a growing sector in the IT industry – is a complex problem, say analysts Gartner. And to crack it, we may need to get a lot better at one key component – analytics.
For that reason, it may be significant that experts tracking this sector at the market watcher have put Riverbed in the ‘Leader’ section of its latest annual probe of the developing APM market (that high position is actually the third year in a row that the vendor has been so recognised, incidentally).
Welcome as the recognition is, for Riverbed the bigger issue is that analytics challenge. Commenting on the Gartner report, the Riverbed team notes that: “At its heart, APM is a Big Data problem.”
That’s because as the complexity and highly distributed nature of today’s applications continues to grow, so does what Riverbed recognises as “the importance of applications to the very core of business operations.”
And as those applications become ever more complex and distributed “it is more important than ever” to get a complete, analytics-based, picture of that performance. That includes, by the way, “the very infrastructure over which it runs,” says the blog.
