Riverbed Dominating WAN Optimisation
WAN optimisation specialist Riverbed Technology has been confirmed as a leader in the market in a new analyst study.
According to market-watchers Infonetics, by way of its just-released snapshot of the third quarter of 2013’s global data centre network equipment sector, Riverbed is still firmly in position at the top of the wide area network performance improvement field.
So well established is its dominance, adds the report’s authors, it even continues to keep networks giant Cisco off the top spot (as well as smaller contender Blue Coat).
Infonetics adds that the worldwide market for WAN optimisation also increased this year – up 3 per cent from the second three-month trading period for the year, to $210m.
The study adds that, going forward, the WAN optimisation market is consolidating, with sales more likely over time to be replacement of existing kit as opposed to fresh investment.
That is not likely, however, to perturb planners at Riverbed – as another area in data centre infrastructure the firm has products in, application delivery controllers (ADC), is set for an interesting next phase.
Specifically, Infonetics researchers believe ADC will be driven along by a move to virtual – a trend that looks likely to make the technology much more accessible by SMEs.
