Riverbed Slashes Storage Costs With SteelStore Solution
Riverbed Technologies has delivered a range of benefits to the engineering firm Wright-Pierce, including substantial cost savings on data storage, by delivering its SteelStore solution.
Wright-Pierce is an award-winning engineering company that specialises in water, wastewater and infrastructure. The Maine-headquartered company chose Riverbed, a leading provider of application performance infrastructure , to tackle the time-consuming and expensive task of storing all of its project data to on-premise tape and disk-to-disk systems.
Riverbed SteelStore, the cloud storage gateway appliance, has enabled the customer to reduce the cost of storing large volumes of data, streamline backup, accelerate recovery and improve data security.
With more than 200 engineers and support professionals employed across seven offices, the scalable storage product was the ideal solution to the problems posed by its growing data sets. The cloud-based alternative was found to be far quicker, more reliable and cheaper – costing just a few hundred dollars a month to store 10 terabytes of data.
Having already deployed Riverbed's SteelHead solution, Wright-Pierce’s IT team was aware of the quality of the vendor’s technology. Ray Sirois, director of IT at Wright-Pierce, explained: “Riverbed provides enabling technologies for us and has been a big part of our success over the last 10 years."
“Storing data in the cloud means we don’t have to buy expensive equipment to keep up with our company’s growth, but we also don’t have to worry about buying too little and then having to go back and asking for money again.”
